Wykład Prof. Eleny Woodacre pt. Queens as Co-rulers: Examining power sharing and ruling partnerships in the premodern world
Serdecznie zapraszamy na wykład Prof. Eleny Woodacre z Uniwersytetu w Winchesterze pt. "Queens as Co-rulers: Examining power sharing and ruling partnerships in the premodern world".
This talk examines the many ways in which queens and royal women acted as co-rulers with their spouses and family members, fulfilling the crucial female aspect of monarchy and sharing out the duties of rule with examples from ancient Egypt to early modern Europe. It will look at queens as co-rulers, thinking about the ruling partnerships between monarchs and consorts—keeping in mind both kings and queens consorts, as well as female monarchs and male consorts. It will also examine co-rulership in terms of mothers, grandmothers, wives, sisters and aunts who were deputized to rule as regents, lieutenants or governors. This talk will demonstrate that in both formal and informal roles, whether they were wielding power visibly on the throne or secretly from behind a screen, women formed a vital part of monarchy as co-rulers.
Będzie to pierwszy wykład Prof. E. Woodacre, podczas jej pobytu na Wydziale Historycznym w ramach programu „Profesorowie wizytujący UG”, w ramach którego Prof. E. Woodacre poprowadzi zajęcia dydaktyczne dla studentów w ramach przedmiotów objętych programami studiów, wykłady otwarte, seminaria i spotkania ze studentami oraz pracownikami UG.
Wykład odbędzie się 8 kwietnia 2025 o godz.16.30 w auli 1.46 na Wydziale Historycznym.
Spotkanie poprowadzi dr Aleksandra Girsztowt-Biskup, która jest także opiekunką pobytu Prof. Eleny Woodacre.
Elena Woodacre (University of Winchester) jest specjalistką w zakresie badań nad władzą królewską i dworami. Jest autorką licznych publikacji, w tym ostatnio dwóch monografii: Queens and Queenship (ARC, 2021) and Joan of Navarre: Infanta, Duchess, Queen, Witch? (Routledge, 2022). Jest także organizatorką serii konferencji „Kings & Queens”, założycielką Royal Studies Network i redaktorem naczelnym Royal Studies Journal. Jest współredaktorką dwóch serii książek z wydawnictwa Routledge (Lives of Royal Women) i ARC Humanities Press (Gender and Power in the Premodern World) oraz redaktorem naczelnym Winchester University Press. Prof. E. Woodacre prowadzi również międzynarodowy projekt zatytułowany Examining the Resources and Revenues of Premodern European Royal Women
